BOSTON , MA - March 7, 2009 - Eyran Records announces the release of pianist Eyran Katsenelenbogen's highly anticipated new solo album, 88 Fingers (Eyran Records 9008. Street date: April 1, 2009).

With 88 Fingers, Katsenelenbogen continues his journey through the landscapes of the American Songbook, offering new interpretations that range from whisperingly romantic to thunderously rhapsodic and displaying the acclaimed virtuosity recently compared to that of Art Tatum.

Featured on 88 Fingers are jazz classics such as Lover (Rogers & Hart), Mack The Knife and September Song (Weill), Groovin' High and A Night In Tunisia (Gillespie) and The Summer Knows (Legrand), plusLatin-Jazz and Hip Hop inspired improvisations on two classical themes from Chopin and Mussorgsky. The song Dream A Little Dream, which opened Eyran's 2002 album It's Reigning Kats & Dogs & Bogen, is revisited with new musical techniques and sensibilities.

"The defining moment for me, the heartbeat at the core of 88 Fingers , is the transition from the softest pianissimo note that concludes What'll I Do to the explosive rendition of Those Were The Days" -  Eyran

~~~~~~~
Eyran Katsenelenbogen continues his international touring with The 88 Fingers Jazz Solo Piano 2008-09 World Concert Tour and with his Pictures at an Exhibition: Classical Meets Jazz collaboration with renowned Russian classical pianist Andrei Ivanovitch. Venues included on these tours are Bechstein Centrum (Hamburg), Stephen Joseph Theater (Scarborough, UK), Marcellus Theatre (Rome), The Mirrors Hall (St. Petersburg), Iridium (New York) and Jordan Hall (Boston).
Master pianist Eyran Katsenelenbogen continues to thrill and inspire audiences throughout the world. This year, he is releasing his tenth album, titled 88 Fingers, with a concert tour that includes venues in the U.S., Europe and the Middle East.
Eyran's previous recordings have been enthusiastically reviewed by major jazz publications such as Jazziz, Jazz Times, Jazz Journal International and All About Jazz, which stated in its review of Eyran's last release, Solotude: "Art Tatum's spirit inhabits this phenomenal musician."
A classically trained pianist with a unique jazz style, Eyran has performed in concerts and on radio and television throughout the world. His recent concerts include Saint Joseph Theater, Scarborough, UK; Bechstein Centrum in Hamburg; Teatro di Marcello in Rome; and Scullers Jazz Club and Steinert Hall in Boston.
In addition to solo touring, Eyran is also continuing his Pictures At An Exhibition: Classical Meets Jazz collaboration with Russian classical pianist Andrei Ivanovitch. The German press hailed their groundbreaking interpretation of Mussorgsky's masterpiece, calling it "An absolute sensation in the history of concert events."
Past tours include solo recitals and recordings at the landmark Jordan Hall, Boston; the 5C Cultural Center, New York; the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation's (CBC) Glenn Gould Studio, Toronto; the Tel-Aviv Jazz & Blues Festival, Israel; L'inoui, Luxembourg; Conservatory of Zurich, Switzerland. Eyran has received the ASCAP Plus Award for the years 2002-08. He is also named on the Massachusetts Cultural Council Performing and Touring Roster, established by the New England Foundation for the Arts (NEFA). Since 1996, Eyran has held a faculty position at the New England Conservatory of Music (NEC) Preparatory School and School of Continuing Education in Boston.
At NEC, Eyran has pioneered innovative techniques for teaching contemporary music performance to students with special abilities and diverse needs. As the first jazz piano teacher of young prodigy Matt Savage, Eyran helped kick off Matt's recording career with their CD One is Not Fun, but 20 is Plenty, which was featured on ABC's 20/20, Good Morning America and People Magazine.
Eyran is passionate about collaborating with his students and colleagues. Recent projects include creating a music library on YouTube documenting performances by his students, and recording one of Eyran's compositions, The Christmas Blues, with his NEC colleague, vocalist Rebecca Shrimpton.
Related to Felix Mendelssohn, Eyran was born in Israel and was first taught by Aida Barenboim, mother and teacher of famed pianist/conductor Daniel Barenboim. Eyran went on to complete his music education at the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston, where he trained with Ran Blake, Paul Bley, Fred Hersch, Danilo Perez, George Russell and Gunther Schuller.
Eyran has been committed throughout his life to improvisational solo piano. "He is a passionate man who feels deeply, and he has the talent to express those feelings through his playing. You can not help but be moved by his performance."   Frank Rubolino, Cadence.
